STRICKLAND ON LATEST RECORDING * In the Midst of Political Turmoil, Oleg Kireyev & Keith Javors Showcase Exciting Partnership * At a time of great political and social uncertainty, the dynamic post-cold war partnership of the Russian Federation's Oleg Kireyev (saxophone) and America's Keith Javors (piano) continues to inspire jazz audiences around the globe. Following up on their critically-acclaimed debut record Rhyme and Reason, the co-leaders welcomed jazz trumpet luminary Tom Harrell and the heralded bass/drums combination of Ben Williams (Pat Metheny) and E.J. Strickland (Ravi Coltrane) to the studio for their dynamic upcoming release, entitled The Meeting, available on May 31, 2016. (ITunes and Google Play preorder begins May 3.) The new record bridges the influences of two continents, featuring new original compositions by Kireyev and Javors and interspersed with standard material. The deluxe physical-only version of the album includes two additional alternate tracks and liner notes by Howard Mandel. The two leaders musical relationship has been deep in spirit from the onset. In 2007, a chance internet meeting led Kireyev to Javors music and, in turn, Javors to Kireyev s. Javors would soon fly to Moscow to perform with Kireyev at the Union of Composer s Club, where Kireyev is Artistic Director. The gesture was soon returned by a U.S. debut performance together at the legendary Blues Alley in Washington D.C. Oleg and Keith quickly formed a symbiotic partnership that has now inspired numerous American and European tours. In addition to performances at numerous premiere clubs such as Smalls, the Iridium, Chris Jazz Café, and more, they also headlined the jazz festival in the historic Russian city of Yaroslavl as well as at the International House of Music, one of the premiere concert venues in Russia. Their flourishing partnership was first sonically documented in the April 13, 2010 release of Rhyme & Reason, featuring Oleg Kireyev & Keith Javors along with bassist Boris Kozlov and drummer E.J. Strickland. The record received much critical acclaim from major music writers and charted on the JazzWeek World charts for several consecutive weeks. This, The Meeting, the tandem s new sophomore effort, follows up on the earlier album s success with a set that is as equally captivating and creative, with model support from Harrell, Williams, and Strickland.
