"Gene Bertoncini has produced several recordings in a duet setting with other guitarists, but this album with Frank Vignola is really something special. The respective styles of these two artists are very different, yet they complement each other completely. As they improvise through each piece on this recording you really do get the feeling that they can read each others minds. The result is a guitar album that truly swings, invoking some of the best jazz guitar duet recordings of the past, including the great Ellis/Pass recording "Two for the Road" and Alden/VanEpps "Handcrafted Swing". High points are a seven-minute improvisation on Fats Waller's Jitterbug Waltz, and the best guitar read of Moonlight in Vermont since Johnny Smith recorded the definitive version of that that tune in the fifties. Fabulous album, from start to finish."
