(4 out of 5 stars)
"The Mel Torme Jazz Collection is a re-issue and repackage of two previous titles Round Midnight and Luck be a Lady that were included in the three CD Essential Box Set. The tracks appear to be original musicraft and capitol recordings. The tracks all swing and particularly show the Torme development in the late 40s before his ground breaking work with Marty Paich. The sides provide a selection of recordings with Dave Barbour and Page Cavanagh (although a discography search seemed to indicate there might be some Artie Shaw tracks as well). There also appear to be some sides with the Don Trenner Octet from around 1963. If you have the essential box set you don't need this collection but any Torme is good Torme in my book. My 4 star rating is not because of the performance but because of the rudimentary packaging and lack of detailed background."
