Neglected Mendelssohn?

"Frankly I am a little bit puzzeled. Here we have one of Mendelssohn's best choral works in a recording from Chandos
with some great soloists and The BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales under the late Richard Hickox. This
oratoiro tells in part the story of events in the life of St. Paul. The Overture is some of the composers best work.
the opening chorus reminds me of parts of Mendelssohn's Second Symphony. On the whole the performance is excellent.
This work like his "Elijah" or "Elias" oratorio is a beautiful but seemingly neglected work. neither deserves such a
fate. I'm glad that Chandos reissued this recording in midprice, it helps make this a first choice of this work.
Highly Recommended!"
