Great Calm Sea, good symphony, the rest very dull

"There is one outstanding performance here. The Mendelssohn Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage is a really exciting performance but not worth buying the entire CD. If you really need this music I would suggest downloading it on Emusic, which seems to have the entire Naxos catalog. The Scotch Symphony performance is a good one but hardly outstanding. As for the other two overtures, they are really dull.
If you are looking for a Mendelssohn overture CD, Sir Neville Marriner's compilation is exceptional. For the best Scotch Symphony, the legendary recording by Peter Maag and the London Symphony is well worth the midprice."
