"I had these Menuhin recordings of the Mendelssohn and Bruchviolin concertos in the days of LP's and tapes, and felt then thatthey were the best available. They're bold, passionate performances, and while Menuhin may not have the rich, fat tone that someone like Perlman does, his performances have a powerful conviction that win the day. I was looking for these recordings on CD with the intention of buying them whatever the price. But the best was yet to come. When I saw they had been re-issued, along with the ever-reliable, often inspirational Andre Previn doing the Italian Symphony, the Hebrides Overture and A Midsummer Night's Dream, I couldn't believe it. I ordered it as fast as I could. This Seraphim series is something. The Menuhin recordings of the two violin concertos were originally released by EMI, so they carry the authority of a major label, the recorded sound is excellent, and as I have indicated, the performances themselves are second to none. Even though this is pretty much a Mendelssohn set, the Bruch concerto is to my mind the real treat. Additionally for Menuhin fans out there, check out his(very highly regarded) recordings of the Bach violin concertos on this label. Oh yes, they also throw in a concerto for violin and oboe and three of Bach's Orchestral Suites, just in case you feel you're not getting enough bang for your buck. Why wait?"
