You spend nearly a decade playing praise and worship songs in churches across the country and then, all of a sudden, one of your songs ("I Can Only Imagine") becomes the Song of the Year, a megahit, and your band is Band o... more »f the Year. Everything changes? That's what faces Mercy Me and its sophomore release--Spoken For--coming on the heels of the hottest Christian release (Almost There) in the last year. While you won't find anything quite like "Imagine" on this release, Mercy Me still offers an earnest appeal, with trademark slower tracks like "Spoken For" and "Word of God Speak." Lead man Bart Millard and boys can also rock it up a bit with the opener, "The Change Inside Me," and the U2-ish charging anthem "Go." Ironically enough, this second release may not contain a huge hit, but it's much stronger in all phases compared with the band's inconsistent debut. And rest assured, Mercy Me's emphasis is still on praising God and doing so with excellence and sincerity. --Michael Lyttle« less

I thought they grasped the majesty of God... UNTIL... I learned the truth. If you want to listen to music that uplifts God, this is not it. Please check out this page listed at the end of my review, which explains where they are really coming from. There is text and a video that plainly shows it all about these wolves in sheep's clothing. By the way, I have checked it out myself with free Audacity recording software from the net. Everything is TRUE. You can test it out yourself with no special skills required. I wouldn't try to dissuade anyone if it were not true.
I hate to see God's people deceived! God is not mocked, even though that is what this group is doing!
Just something to think about if you wonder whether to check this out... remember, their logo is mm where the one "m" is backwards and this is the key to finding out who's camp they are firmly in!
I was shocked and dismayed, but feel compelled to help anyone who will listen to know the truth about this group. That they are purporting to be Christians is such a sham. I've been in churches that have played these songs!
By the way, this is not the only song... he has another video about "I Can Only Imagine." Please watch and warn others... God bless you!

"I was a huge fan of the "Almost There" CD. I hosted a Dove Awards party and knew in my heart that Mercy Me would win the Dove Award for "I Can Only Imagine". It is such a beautiful song. As is the entire album, my favorite being "In You". I was really hooked! So...I didn't want to be let down when it came to their 2nd go round. I have to admit, I was so taken with the first CD, I almost didn't give "Spoken For" a chance. I bought it, half-listened to it, and wrote a half-hearted promotion in my churh newsletter to promote it. I just wasn't there yet with the whole CD. Initially, there were two songs that caught my attention. The title track "Spoken For" was beautiful and touched my heart with the the lyrics - "Now I have a peace, That I've never known before, I find myself complete, My heart is spoken for, By the power of the cross, You've taken what was lost, And made it fully Yours... And I have been redeemed, By You who spoke to me, Now I am spoken for"...Wow, what could I possibly add to such beauty? Then, there is the song "Crazy" - " I have not been called, To the wisdom of this world, But to a God, who's calling out to me, And even though the world may think, I'm losing touch with reality, it would be crazy, to choose this world, over eternity". Both of these songs really got me thinking about the direction I was planning to take in my life. Coincidentally, I started taking "Spoken For" in my CD player on my morning walks. As the early dawn broke to daylight, I found myself intrenched in one of the most awesome praise CD's I have ever listened to. This quiet, peaceful time gave me the mental openness I needed to fully appreciate the lyrics and composition that this album had to offer. Hey guys....Bart, Nathan, Mike, Robby, Jim...I hope you guys are listening, because this is from the heart. You have sent to me an awesome, beautiful message. You have made God know to me (again)with this CD and made me re-examine my life path. I thank God for reaching me through you. I really love "Spoken For". Yes, as much as "Almost There". And guys, even us 30-something homemakers love you and look forward to your next work of art and praise. God Bless you all and best wishes from So. Cal. So, when will you come see us in Ventura County????"

"I recently discovered Mercy Me's wonderful debut CD. I loved it so much I was anxious to get my hands on this one. I'm very pleased to report it's just as wonderful as the first. The first single released to radio and best song on here is "Word of God Speak." While it was not as big as "I Can Only Imagine" was for their last project, I find it more powerful. It's a quiet prayer to be filled with God and His word. This song is the first of three songs in a row that I just love. They completely change moods with the much more upbeat "Your Glory Goes On." Then they do a new version of one of my favorite hymns, "The Love of God."While these songs may come late in the disc, that doesn't mean the earlier tracks aren't great. The disc starts talking about "The Change Inside of Me" when I became a Christian. "All the Above" reminds us to constantly live in the joy we shared with Heaven as new Christians. And "Crazy" meditates on the contradictions of the Christian life. The chorus caught my ear right away, and it's quickly becoming another favorite. The only song I'm disappointed in is the final song. "All Because of This" talks about why Christians do what they do. The problem is how short it is. I'm ready for a second verse about the time they are ending.Any fan of the first disc will love this disc, too. In just a few short months, Mercy Me has moved onto my list of must buy artists. I can't wait for their next release."
A Critique on "Spoken For" by Mercy Me

""I have not been called to the wisdom of this world, but to a God who's calling out to me..." are the words that play over and over in my head as I listen to the sound of Mercy Me singing in my ear. In the album "Spoken For", Mercy Me reflects back on how great it is to be saved and the joys of being a Christian. The words and lyrics of the songs included in this album share the groups' detailed thoughts on the wonders God can do and what He has promised for his children. Mercy Me has shared with the world what is in their heart so that everyone may know how God has turned their lives upside down for the good. Through this song and many others, the group has set an example for people everywhere and what real Christian life is about.
The past CD, "Almost There", included the song "I Can Only Imagine" which later went on to win Song of the Year. This set the standard for Mercy Me as they started thinking about their next album. Little did the group know that "Spoken For" would go above and beyond their previous works and be a shining light to the world. The CD starts off with a song entitled "Change Inside Me" which simply states how Christians should not be ashamed of sharing the change that has happened to them and how it has rearranged their lives forever.
The songs included in the album contain words of hope and share a testimony of triumphs and hardships. One song, my personal favorite, is entitled "Crazy". "I have not been called to the wisdom of this world, but to a God who's calling out to me" are the words I previously stated before from this song. This implies that no matter what the outcome in life, we are to only look to Him who is able to do immeasurable things in each individual's life. Another favorite of mine is "There's a Reason" which talks about everything happening for a reason and having some thing to live for. All in all, each song gradually openly displays what Christians should strive to be.
Getting further into the CD, the listener will hear their words growing more passionate for God by using phrases such as, "Word of God speak, would you pour down like rain, washing my eyes to see Your majesty...". Each word burns into the listeners mind, making them realize that there is something more than just the words being sung. Being a Christian is not just a title, but it is also a way of life. I think this is what Mercy Me is trying to get across as they open their very souls for the world to see.
As Mercy Me continues to sing, there is another extremely important issue the group addresses: Spending time daily walking with the Lord. The main singer of the group, Bart Millard, stated, "It's been amazing...It's made us keep our noses in the Word even more because we've been given such a blessing and we don't want to mess it up." Well, in my opinion, they must be doing something right to be doing so good in the music industry today. It is true they have been given so much, but like the Bible says, God is only going to give you what you can handle, no more, no less. I am glad as a Mercy Me fan that this group seems to have their heart and mind in the right place.
Mercy Me has come a long way to get to where they are today. "Spoken For" is the CD every fan has been waiting for with its heartfelt lyrics that capture the mind and soul of all who listen to them. The more I listen to the CD, the more I realize what the group is singing about. It is amazing how a few songs can jump-start your day and give you hope in God and what He has in store for you. All in all, this album is something for every Christian who has the desire to have a love relationship with their Savior."
Better Than "Almost There"

"I only received this CD 3 days ago and it is already wearing out my CD player. Granted, "I Can Only Imagine" is the best Christian single to come out since Amy Grant's "Angels Watching Over Me"; but that album was inconsistent and sold only on the strength of that single. This one is different - Bart Millard's vocals are stronger, the instrument playing is tighter, and the songs are more powerful. I don't think those writing reviews panning this album have listened to it much and are probably mistakenly trying to compare one album to one single (I Can Only Imagine) - you just don't write songs like that every day. But the lyrics are deeper and much more meaningful on this CD, especially on "Word of God Speak". It is more eclectic and diverse and I expect more great stuff from this terrific band."
Lyrical strength makes this a good buy

"This CD is very deep in its focus on relationship with Jesus. While much in Christian music is rather shallow and worldly, the lyrics on this CD draws the listener into deeper intimacy with Christ. I recommend this CD for the more serious Christian listener."
