Synopsis

Album Description
5 CD box set of Merle's complete recordings for Tally and Capitol from 1962 to 1968 (except the Jimmie Rodgers tribute available separately). The classic early hits are here, like Strangers, Swinging Doors, The Bottle Let Me Down, I Threw Away The Rose, Branded Man, Sing Me Back Home, Lonesome Fugitive, and Mama Tried, but the importance of this set is that it shows Merle's developing artistry in the album tracks, abandoned cuts, and rare singles. Other sets skim the surface; this one tells the complete story.

(5 out of 5 stars)

"I gave this set 5 stars only because it doesn't go higher.

This is an outstanding collection of the Hag's early work. Much of his Talley recordings are here as well as his capitol. It covers 1962-1968 It is a great companion to his "Down Every Road" Which focus on his later work. Some of the hightlights are the false starts which give you a tiny peak into the recording session. Hag's voice was just as rich then as it is now."
