CD Reviews

Brilliant - energetic - beautiful (Don't miss this!)

(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is an incredible Brazilian band! I wish I could give this CD a six-star rating! Mestre Ambrósio has been my favorite Brazilian band since the first time I put their previous CD in the player. Before I could find them on Amazon, I started placing CD orders with my family in Brazil, to send me more so that I could give it out to all my friends.
OK, now that I've gushed about them, this album makes me smile. This album makes me dance. Mestre Ambrósio is a young contemporary band that uses traditional rhythms and instruments to propel original songs with brilliant, poetic lyrics. The band dances across the complex and beautiful tapestry of Brazilian musical tradition, while keeping its heart in the present and its eyes towards the future. In the music on this album, the fiddle and the accordion mix effortlessly with electric bass and occaisionally guitar, with clear vocals lifted above strong harmonies. A host of intricate and fascinating percussion (more instruments than I can list) lights the fuse. If I were rich-and-famous, this band would play at my dream party.
If you like music, get this CD.
If you have any interest in Brazil whatsoever, this music will make you buy plane tickets.
If you are actively interested in Brazilian music, you might as well get five discs, because you will want to give them as presents to your friends.
Their other album (Fuá no casa de caBRal) is also wonderful."
