Album DescriptionMarsalis Music launches a new, limited edition Honors Series, dedicated to presenting important contributors to the jazz tradition who have not received their due, in programs of their choice and multigenerational ensembles. Marsalis Music Honors Michael Carvin spotlights a master drummer who has played with a slew of pop stars (he was Motown's house drummer for several years) and such jazz greats as Jackie McLean and Dizzy Gillespie, while also running a School of Drumming that has turned out many of the new generation's leading percussionists. Carvin's quartet includes young tenor star Marcus Strickland, plus a guest appearance by producer Branford Marsalis. The CD cover is by another artist deserving wider recognition, photographer Lou Jones.
