Mutate is the predecessor to the breakthrough crossover follow up 'Liquor Store, Laundromat, Chinese Restaurant' from the Boston based band RUMBLE Syndicate. This release features the singles "Powertrip" & "Despondent" which received airplay all across the country on college radio. Both tracks are very different, and this is indicative of the album as well.
At times the disc has a Rage Against the machine feel (Powertrip, Absolution), but often switches gears on tracks like Bone Deep & Teardrop Tattoo to a slow, dirging groove ala Alice in Chains or Soundgarden. Filling out the mixed bag on Mutate are uptempo rockers like 7 Year Sleep & Totem Pole that lay down a solid a foundation, and a hidden track that is difficult to describe and must be heard by the listener to adequately sum it up. Let me just say, the band has a sense of humour on top of the serious lyrics that carry throughout Mutate, and that is a GOOD thing.
Their live show is just as powerful and energetic as the album. Pick up a copy of Mutate today, and SUPPORT THE CONSPIRACY!!!
