"What stands out immediately on the second round of the Immer series from Michael Mayer is tender lovely care he gives the selection, the version, and the mix of each track woven seamlessly into and throughout each other on his new mix CD. If that wasn't enough, you get a code whereby you can go to the Kompakt MP3 website and download an additional, bonus disc of some of his personal favorites, which also gets the same attention to detail. It's rumored Mayer took over 12 months to compile these tracks which cover some of the best micro-house and minimal techno around these last three years.
The blur of information coming out of Cologne, Germany via the Kompakt label can be overwhelming with last two excellent Total 6 & Total 7, the Total 100, and the respective Pop Ambient releases. Using the house label as a base, Michael picks and chooses with abandon to satiate the most discriminating palette and proclivity relating to any type electronic and/or club music. This is not so much a collection of 1:00 AM floor fillers as a nocturnal pre-to-post club adventure into every aspect imaginable. Opening with Someone Else - Ploosh, moving on into Ian Simmonds - The Dog, mid-disc Justus Kohncke - Advance, Lindstom - Another Station (Todd Terje Remix), The Rice Twins - For Dan, latter to closing, Jesse Somfay - Lying In A Bed Of Mist, DK7 - Where's The Fun (Sten Remix), and the superlative Geiger - Good Evening (Superpitcher/Mayer Remix). Need I write more?
I would give this project 5 stars and might have expect this is not original Michael Mayer material, it's just his creative panache, paying close attention, and executing a wealth of substance with a peculiar, particular ear for what goes down easy and what stays with long after. The 2nd download disc has a more subtle flavor with more Mayer remixes of Mikkel Metal - Lukon, Ada - Maps, Dorau & Koehncke - Abermorgen, and Terre Thaemlitz - Terre & Funk: Shui: Superbonus Superedit. Even though I'm not familiar with most of these artist and don't speak German, borders aren't relevant. This is what you want and expect from one of the most respected and hands-on DJs in the world. Full of melodic rhythms that get stuck on infinite loops inside your head, this is a wonderful and rather pleasant way to nod through this seasons holidays. I don't usually give rousing endorsements, but I'd open my doors and let this one play down the street. I'd even step out and shuffle a loose foot or two without any hint of embarrassment or care. A rather remarkable and truly commanding performance."

"It is actually a nice minimal techno mix CD. In Michael Mayer's own words, `it represents a more personal view of how minimal techno and the typical Cologne sound have evolved in the last years to something more colorful and emotional than it used to be '. Nonetheless, this is not made for people who look for a mix of the latest club tunes - it's a beautifully made piece of mix which represents quality nice music, the deeper side of minimal techno/house and beyond; you can even find some disco elements. The interesting thing about the project is that M. Mayer himself carefully collected most tracks for almost a year. When you listen to it you can feel that this is a very personal and organic mix CD...
Highly recommended for both Kompakt fans and those new to the Cologne techno sound.
