Synopsis
Product Description High-energy 1920's and 30's vintage jazz with hot vocals and stellar instrumental work. The MIDNIGHT SERENADERS' debut album "Magnolia" is a recording inspired by the blues singers, crooners, and hot jazz ensembles of the 1920's and 30's. The MIDNIGHT SERENADERS are a group based out of Portland, Oregon performing vintage small orchestra music from the the early 20th century, unearthing and reinterpreting many long-forgotten songs from this music-rich era. Their repertoire consists of Tin Pan Alley jazz and blues flavored pop songs, crooning ballads, dance numbers, as well as sweet Hawaiian instrumentals. The MIDNIGHT SERENADERS bring together six accomplished musicians who have, over the past decade and in other musical genres, made their mark on the Portland music scene. Featured are DOUG SAMMONS - guitar & vocals, HENRY BOGDAN - Hawaiian steel guitar, DEE SETTLEMIER - vocals & ukulele, PETE LAMPE - upright bass, GARNER PRUITT - trumpet, and DAVID EVANS - clarinet & saxophone. 1 (Lookie Lookie Lookie) Here Comes Cookie 2 A Porter's Love Song to a Chambermaid 3 How'm I Doin' 4 I Must Have That Man 5 What Makes Me Love You So 6 My Carolina Sunshine Girl 7 My Handyman 8 Magnolia 9 Sand 10 The World's Jazz Crazy 11 Lazybones 12 You Got to Give Me Some 13 Dirt Dishin' Daisy 14 Six Feet of Papa 15 Everybody Loves My Baby |
CD ReviewsSome Great 20's and early 30's Songs performed energetically Edward J Vasicek | Kokomo, IN USA | 12/20/2008 (5 out of 5 stars) "This is not a typical 20's remake. The band makes prominent use of a steel guitar, a true 1920's instrument. Yet between the guitar and the country sound of the male soloist, it has a bit of country music flavor.
Not to worry, though. The songs are arranged and performed very well in 20's style. A few of them are a bit provocative, but some 20's songs were. I am awaiting more CDs from this group -- they really blend well and put out a good product." |
