Then you need to have his three best-known, and by most accounts his three best recordings on your shelf. No one would be disappointed with this set of diverse, yet stunningly beautiful albums."

"A trio of albums that includes some of the best material ever recorded in the studio by Miles Davis makes this a must collection for those exploring his vast catalog for the first time or for long-time fans.



An added dimension to this very affordable multi-CD set is the alternate takes included on Sketches of Spain - Concierto de Aranjuez (Adagio) (part one & part two ending), with a bonus track, Song of Our Country - and Kind of Blue - Flamenco Sketches.



Sketches of Spain (1960) is a collaboration between Davis and composer/arranger Gil Evans into the Spanish folk tradition. There is a textured, rich and lush orchestral elegance to the . Kind of Blue (1959) remains a revolutionary work of sound that continues to be heard in jazz and rock. Davis was setting the stage through In a Silent Way (1969) for his 1970s creation of the electric fusion sound.



While some may quibble that the third album should have been Milestones or Porgy and Bess (both from 1958) - replacing In a Silent Way, for historical continuity - the travel over Davis's multi-dimensional artistic canvas in one set is quite nice, indeed."
