CD ReviewsAmazon shills again! Carl B. | Springfield, USA | 10/23/2007 (1 out of 5 stars) "Do not order this from Amazon Direct unless you want to pay $45 for a regular plastic jewel case. The product detail says "Miniature LP 2007" but all I got was the 2000 edition housed in a plastic jewel case! Normally I would suck it up, but considering how much I've spent here at Scamazon I thought they could have extended themselves a little beyond the standard boiler plate response and apology. LAME P.s. I LOVE MILES!" Rare, Delectable, and White Hot 1970 Miles Trek Jason Lynn | Corona del Mar, CA United States | 05/17/2009 (5 out of 5 stars) "If you love Miles from 1970 and intuit that the master re-made music in a way still not fully understood or appreciated, get this album immediately. Disc Two is entirely from 1970, and has contributions from genius-guitarist John McLaughlin; to my knowledge, this material is only available on this obscure Jap-import, and thank god for the fanatics in Tokio to put this out (Sony Legacy should be releasing entire box sets of the 1970s live material, instead of the skimpy double cds: come on ROTHSTEIN, let's have ALL THE FILLMORE SHOWS, every note!). There is one severe defect with this 1970 CD: the "cuts" are just that, cuts, they are surgically removed pieces, crescendos, thawings, which sound out of place given that they happened in Miles' genius for orchestrating an organic whole; it's just silly to slash out a preferred segment of 16 minutes from a song meant to be heard as a 50 minute, self-contained whole. Sony could well afford to issue the whole compositions these songs are plucked from; as well, another defect is that for "Directions" to truly catalogue Miles progress and radical, world-shaking change, these Cds would have to be more like a 4 to 6 Cd box set and include work from the 1968 and late 69 tours. But the live material from the early 60s is great as well, and at least somewhat shows what the title says, the many and marvelous Directions which Miles took his music and all higher culture with it." Tasty scraps IRate | 08/11/2009 (3 out of 5 stars) "3 1/2
Interesting collection of outtakes will only be for those already heavily invested into modes of Miles due to a sometimes rambling nature, but for those it caters to many of these scratches at excellence do well, in easy-going, carefree fashion, at chronicling one of the modern ages most influential musicians in one of his most transitionary phases." |
