"This CD is a collection of early '50's airshots (recordings taken from a radio) from Birdland. Among the players are Stan Getz, JJ Johnson, and Art Blakey. Recording is typical of this era (like so many live recordings of this era, the original source was Boris Rose), tinny, a little scratchy, but totally acceptable once you get used to it. The performances are spirited, livelier, in fact than what some of these players were doing in the studio at this time. This material is available on a variety of labels, usually with the source and players accurately labeled. I may not recommend this particular issue, but I DEFINTELY recommend these sessions!"
