"In the Forties, young trumpeter Miles Davis had a traumatic experience that would change his life forever: he heard "Bird", just when alto saxophonist Charlie Parker's insane improvising was exploding the options open to jazzmen. Miles joined Bird, and between 1947 and 1948 he learned both excellence and also how to fly; and he did so with the cream of America's jazz musicians, from "angry" tenor John Coltrane to the controversial "high priest of bebop", pianist Thelonious Monk, both of whom featured in memorable sessions led by Miles. These two CDs bear witness to the extraordinary productivity of the trumpeter's partnerships, some confronting both allies and adversaries, and they document over a decade of vertiginous jazz.



Not really essential for a collector of music, but still a good compilation. The hard covered book which holds the 2 CDs also has a dozen or so pages of comic strips of Miles Davis, unfortunately the comic text is in French. This CD Set is a great gift idea.
