CD ReviewsGreat killer Miles Sparky P. | composer, all around nice guy, yada yada yada | 09/15/1999 (5 out of 5 stars) "Although the number of selections are quite small (six different tunes, five of which have its alternate take), the quality of playing is strong in every way. Miles and the boys play through those tricky triplets in "Ray's Idea" very cleanly. The two ballads, "Enigma" and "I Waited for You," again show Miles' marvelous tender side. "Kelo" and "CTA" are two great boppin' ensemble pieces, with great solos all around. The real capper of this set is Bud Powell's "Tempus Fugit," with again more great solos from Miles, saxist Horace Silver and t'bonist Jay Jay Johnson. The real kicker of this piece however is Art Blakey's infectious backbeat. Probably my most favorite piece of jazz drumwork. My feet in fact can never stay still through this track. (Another great track with Art Blakey? How about Thelonious Monk's "Epistrophy" from the Monk/Coltrane. But add your own other favorites as well.)" Very Strong mistermaxxx@yahoo.com | usa | 06/01/2000 (5 out of 5 stars) "Volume 1 is TIght but this One is Even Better. The Music Has a Life of it's Own here.Miles Always Got The Best out Of Fellow Musicians&this Set Proves that Point&More. The Solos&Grooves Never let up.When You Hear this You Will WOnder How Come he kept Changing his Groups? but Believe it or not He Kept Getting Better Results. He always had His Ears&Mind Open for Change. The Musicianship here is Top Of The Line."
