Pennsylvania power-popsters Milkshake Jones return with their sophomore LP, "Gala Days," (The Paisley Pop Label, 2007) produced by Michael Giblin (Parallax Project, ex-Cherrytwister) and mastered by Bret Alexander (The Cellarbirds, ex-Badlees). This is the kind of record we ve been waiting a long time to make, guitarist/vocalist/songwriter John Micek said. Michael really found a way to bring out the best in us. His production reminds me of all my favorite records. I really think we ve made a record that can cut across stylistic boundaries and reach a wide variety of listeners, Micek continued. But as much as I want to make people think with these songs, I also want to hear this record blasting out of car windows this fall. Gala Days 10 tracks shimmer with 12-string guitars, unforgettable melodies, and Micek's razor-sharp lyrics. "Gala Days" picks up where the band's self-titled debut left off, with hook-heavy pop tunes that hit you straight in the heart even as they make you move your feet. Since their formation in late 2002, this Harrisburg, Pa. -based four-piece has blended the best of ontemporary power-pop, 60s vintage BritPop and alt.country to forge a sound that is uniquely their own. It's a sound that's earned them comparisons to such college rock stalwarts as The Replacements, Squeeze and The Connells, just to name a few.
