CD ReviewsTop of the world Jazzcat | Genoa, Italy Italy | 09/16/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "How would you feel if you were sitting on the top of the world? It would be great if we could ask this to Pass, Jackson or Brown who were for their entire lifetime seated up there! But unfortunatly they are all gone. So try to hear for yourself how big they are buying this record. This cd proves why they were so big. The interplay between these guys was spectacular. Their chops unequalled in Jazz. And with their instruments they created a perfect Jazz unit, a small orchestra with soft sounds that did swing like Buddy Rich big band !! They recorded a lot of records togehter in various situations but this album is particularly satisfying from the very start. "Pink Panther" is NOT the Mancini's theme for the Panther's cartoons. It's not. It's a Milt Jackson's blues. Then among the best tunes contained here we have "Nuages" a Django Reinhardt original, "Blue Bossa" from Kenny Dorham, Jobim's "Wave", "Moonglow" (a standard tune) and another blues in the ending place. What to add more? It's a Pablo record (OJC today): Pablo was the record company founded in the seventies by Verve's Norman Granz. I don't find the period particularly interesting for Jazz (the seventies) and the company did at the time some questionable recordings. But you surely can find in the Pablo catalog some very good sessions. This is one of them. For example all the Sarah Vaughan's Pablo records are absolutly stellar. It depends. This Pablo record is very very good and this is all you have to know."
