Inspired prog-rock extravanganza

"It's too bad there aren't many reviews on this album. "Mind's Eye" has created an excellent CD full of catchy yet intricate vocal harmonies, top-notch song construction, and a seamless, flowing quality to the songs that doesn't seem contrived. Whereas some progressive bands excel at virtuosity (which some denigrate as "overplaying"--but isn't that the very essence of progressive music?), "Mind's Eye" excel at creating memorable, infectious grooves and fantastic melodies. Their sound is huge for a core of only three musicians. And every player is a master of his instrument. The singer is instantly likeable, with a pleasing mid-range voice that reminds me occasionally of Freak Kitchen's singer, especially when he mentions "Sixty Minutes" in the opening song, "Rabbit in a Hat". Every tune here is a winner, with my favorites being "Ms. Claire Voyant", "Getting You Out of my Sytem", "Heal My Karma", and the awesome "Sahara In An Hourglass". "Sahara" has an ominous, recurring, Middle-Eastern tinged melody that reminds me of Black Stallions thundering across a desert with hooded bandits in the saddles waving scimitars--great music that paints a picture. They also use vocal processing, muted urban drumbeats, and electronic effects to add modern flourishes.

Clocking in at 75 minutes, "Walking on H2O" is a generous offering of this neglected band's musical prowess. For me it's one of the best releases in the last decade."
