"For those of you who have your lips super-glued to Glenn Danzig's ass, nothing but him will please you so I won't bother trying to convince you otherwise -- go listen to Danzig and stop bitching. For the rest of you who are a bit more open-minded, pick this little number up. It's got all the energy & spirit of the classic Misfits, with tighter playing and infinitely cleaner production (I love older albums like "Walk Among Us" too, but c'mon, they sound like the mics were two rooms away from the band!). The people who bash the 'fits now over Michale Graves generally aren't doing so because he's a bad singer (he's actually quite talented), they're only doing it because he's NOT DANZIG. Get over it! All bands & artists change at least a little over time, especially when the lineup changes, but if they're a quality band they have a signature sound that can't be erased. Listen to old Danzig-era Misfits, then listen to Danzig's latest solo work; you really gonna tell me it sounds the same? Do you believe the Misfits' sound wouldn't have evolved at all if Danzig had remained with the band to this day, considering how far removed from the Misfits his solo stuff has become? When all is said and done, "American Psycho" is a great Misfits album and a proud addition to any TRUE Fiends' collection!"

"It took me a while to pick this up. Being a huge Danzig fan, and really devoted to the old Misfits and Samhain, I was really prejudiced against this one. But eventually I made myself do it and...I honestly wish Michale Graves would never have been part of the group. Let me explain: none of us are new to the whole Old Misfits/New Misfits arguments, but one thing is certain - because of these arguments, a whole bunch of people are missing out on a truly great frontman. Michale has an awesome voice, a great presence. He is no Glenn Danzig - because he's his own man as far as I'm concerned. What I really hope is that Michale's new band Gotham Road (and Graves, which was formed right after he left the Misfits) doesn't suffer because many Danzig fans take him as 'The Danzig Wannabe' - just like I did before I listened to him. Now that I've explained that, on to the album.The rating should have been 2 1/2 stars. Altogether, I liked it; there were some catchy riffs, Michale is great as I said, but the feeling just wasn't there. Maybe I expected too much. If this would have been a different band with the same songs, would I have liked it more? I don't know. The production is clean, almost too clean for its own good. The Old Misfits had the charm and edginess of bad recordings, which also helped to disguise the sometimes lack of musicianship. Here it is exposed, and while the riffs are catchy for the most part, a few songs seem like empty imitations of the old stuff. The blatant B-movie lyrics don't work like they once did. Another thing that made me suspicious - the TM by the logo. Hmmmm...Overall though, I like the album. 'Dig up Her Bones' is a great track. But don't hold it against Michale that he followed Glenn - those are huge shoes to fill, so search around for some Graves demos and check out a talented frontman."

Not a bad comeback

"American Psycho marked the return of the classic and legendary punk band the Misfits. The only remaining members are Doyle and Jerry, Glenn is replaced by Republican punk Michale Graves, who does not as good a job as Glenn but does okay. Dr. Chud is excellent as the replacement drummer. This album and "Famous Monsters" proves that Misfits is not the band it used to be, but more of a punk metal band. The two albums still have the horror themed titles, but these songs have more to do with the title than the original Glenn era horror theme songs ("Night Of the Living Dead" for example has hardly any thing to do with the movie) with songs like "The Hunger", "Day of the Dead" and "Mars Attacks". Here's my review of the tracks:



Abomidable Dr. Phibes- Great instrumental opener, very eerie (9/10)

American Psycho- Not bad, but not as catchy as the others (7/10)

Speak of the Devil- Fantastic lyrics and vocals from Graves (9/10)

Walk Among Us- One of my favorites, very catchy (10/10)

The Hunger- very heavy, very fast. Excellent (10/10)

From Hell They Came- not great but will do justice for a Glenn fan (6/10)

Dig Up Her Bones- I like this, a lot of people do (8/10)

Blacklight- would be better as a Glenn song (7/10)

Resurrection- Least favorite song on the album (5/10)

This Island Earth- would be, once again, a better Glenn tune. (6/10)

Crimson Ghost- I couldn't get enough of this song when I first heard it. One of the most metal songs on the CD (10/10)

Day of the Dead- great Michale vocals (9/10)

The Haunting- not much to be said, but this is great (9/10)

Mars Attacks- would be better if Glenn did it, no offence Michale. Not a very strong track (7/10)

Love the Dead- Great heavy riff (8/10)

Shining- favorite track. When I first heard it, I couldn't stop listening. (10/10)

Doomsday- Longest song they've done, great closer. (10/10)



This was my first Misfits record, and it is great if your just starting to buy their albums. Highly recommended.
