Modjo delivers on their previous singles!

"I fell in love with Modjo's three single releases before I got the album: Lady (hear me tonight), Chillin', and What I Mean (a new single that I haven't seen for sale in the US yet). While some dance/techno/pop albums have some incredibly strong tracks, they use filler to complete the album. NOT SO with Modjo. With exception to Track #4 (Too Good to be True...an easy 1 minute track to pass by) and Track #1 (Acknowledgement...maybe they want to explain that one?) every other song completes an incredible picture of groovin' tunes. While Lady and Chillin are definate club hits, there are other pop-like songs with catchy lyrics (Peace of Mind) and beautiful harmonies (Savior Eyes). And Modjo especially delivers the goods on some bass-thumpin songs (On Fire, No More Tears, and Music Takes You back).I'd venture to say some of the styles are a healthy mix of Daft Punk and Jamiraquai, however their style becomes their own after a few listenings of the CD. Highly, highly recommended release!"
"Modjo?s first CD is a respectable one"

"A tremendously awful cover really shouldn't put you off from listening to this decent album from duet Modjo. Combining classic jazz guitar riffs with 70's rock, Modjo's first CD is a respectable one, with influences that include Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, David Bowie and the Beatles, their eclectic mix of different types of music comes in to play quite well to create some wholly enjoyable tracks. Already a huge phenomenon in Europe, Modjo's influence can be heard regularly in practically every bar in Hong Kong. The hit sensation "Lady" has graced virtually every drug-filled club on the island, and chances are even if you don't think you've heard it, you probably have. "Chillin" is also a DJ favorite, with its repetitive background sounds and Bee Gees-influenced lyrics. But most of the best songs on the CD aren't that of the `dance music' variety. "What I Mean" is an enjoyable cheesy song, using an 80's backing track combined with 21st century lyrics, while "Peace Of Mind" sounds like it's straight out of a Jamiroquai album. Most songs though, especially "No More Tears", brought images of John Travolta dancing in a white suit to our mind - while that's not exactly a bad thing, we would've preferred more of the former mentioned songs. We really must say that French people are awfully strange - "Music Takes You Back" is four minutes of what sounds like porno music with some extremely strange lyrics, while "Too Good To Be True" is basically just a minute and half long track of two people talking to each other with extremely low background music."
Some of the best house music out there!!

"After hearing the huge 2001 hit "Lady" a song with a cool dancable sample and nice hook, you might have thought that the rest of the songs would sound the same, but they don't. Most of them are soulish disco tracks, a few slow soul songs as far from beeing reffered as dance music as possible and some simply instrumental dance songs. The french duo's debut album "Modjo" is far from a bad dance album but it could have been much better. Dance albums mixed with soul are often easy to listen to and actually quite good too, the dissapointing thing however is that some songs are not even dance songs. Modjo is more of a soul group that turned dance then the opposite. Apart from "Lady" we have Songs like "Chillin" and "What I Mean" that are decent too, actually a quite easy listening album. Nothing that will go down in history but ok."

"These guys are just bloody excellent! There are some seriously excellent tracks on here. You thought "lady" and "chillin" were good to dance to...you should listen to "on fire" - it's just that! Well worth buy. A fresh, new and invigorating perspective on dance music...well done Mojdo!!!"
