Product DescriptionTenor saxist Marty Krystall leads this quartet with drums, percussion, and bass, yet the harmonic structures clearly holds up as the quartet weaves it's way through the material starting with two Krystall originals: the funky Jungle Canopy; and The Sequester Blues, dedicated to John Coltrane and Gene Ammons. This is the same band that appears on Mojave-Gunsmoke, with J.P. Maramba on bass and Sinclair Lott on drums, with the addition of Bob Conti on percussion. Next follows the first recording of Herbie Nichols' Moments Magical (in beguine form) and a waltz version of Theme Of Exodus like John Coltrane would have arranged it. Krystall shines on bass clarinet on a fast latin version of Brass Rings by Herbie Nichols and an original ballad The Commissioner. Brilliant Corners, by Thelonious Monk is played by the trio and the last original, Buejerk explores some free territory. The incredibly live sound (as if the musicians are playing in your room) was recorded in mid-side stereo using a Neumann USM-69 stereo microphone.
