"piercing music makred robert henke's first forray into releasing a long player for public consumption. truely visionary considering it's 1994 release date, this album still contains a marked relevance in todays DSP/glitch environment. piercing music is one long, evolving 60 minute track that shows Henke's commitment to sound design was fully realized even early in his career. slience, then the tinyest of tiny trickles meet your ears...water, surrounded by washes of melodic air. over time this builds into large scale cresendos, only to collapse and start the cycle anew. ordered chaos is a apt framework within which this release exists, enveloping the listener in a world unpredictable in its most minute elements, yet altogether famillar and comforting. i find it equally functional as foreground or background sound. with a foreground approach it ensnares you until an hour of your life is spent milling about in Mr.Henke's head along with his wonderful machines. in the background it manages to taint our environment with the soft brush of ordered chaos, melting with your surroundings into a airborne aquatic wonderland. its especially prevailant ona suround sound stereo. not quite as fully formed as his "floating point" album that followed, and certainly devoid of the rhythmic quotiant of most monolake material, yet, for any fan of henke under any guise, as well as any discerning connessiour of conceptual ambient sound, this is certainly a must have."
