Influential California-based hard rock band Montrose reigned in the 70s with a big, proto-metal sound boasting the fret-shredding guitar heroics of Ronnie Montrose and whalloping vocals by Sammy Hagar. The only compilation of their fiery sonics, this 18-track survey culls the best of their Warner. Bros.
years ( 73- 76), plus several tracks from the group's 1987 Enigma reunion. In addition to signature classic rock cuts with a pre-Van Halen Hagar fronting, it features tracks with subsequent lead singer Bob James as well as riff-thundering, virtuoso instrumental sides

Its good but...

"The first Montrose album was great. Sammy Hagar's voice and Ronnie Motrose's guitar was quite a combination. The first 3 songs on this compilation represent that terrific album. The rest of the songs are good but pale in comparision to the first three. Ronnie Montrose needed a stud singer to fully develop his power chord music. If the orginial group would have stayed together, they most likely would have been bigger."
