CD Reviews

I love their work

"It's hard to describe their type of music, but it's fabulous. It's tin pan alley jazz, with a Hawaiian flavor. Aw, never mind the description, just listen to their music. I first found about them on the Coney Island boardwalk, and have been listening ever since. This album is as good or better than all the rest."
Fifth great cd by New York's swinging Moonlighters

"Bliss Blood's Moonlighters return with their fifth full-length release, this time on Seattle's WorldSound Records. They have created another fun, upbeat record full of obscure 1920's songs and their original tunes which vary from bluesy songs like Bliss Blood's "Winter In My Heart" and "Queen of Loneliness" to poppy Charleston-style stompers including "Don't Baby Me" and "I'm Still In Love with You", downhome country twang on "Texarkana Bound", Mae West style innuendo on "Race Track Papa" and "Sheet Music Man", the latter composed for Bliss by her friend Al Duvall, another quirky and original Brooklyn musician. Bliss also wrote the title tune, "Enchanted" and "Texarkana Bound" and Cindy Ball, playing in the band since 2007, composed a dark and exotic tune with an Egyptian tinge called "Night Smoke" (as well as "Don't Baby Me").

They also cover some great old songs, including "Don't Cry Baby" which was recorded by Bessie Smith, Cole Porter's "It's Bad For Me", "Fooling with The Other Woman's Man" from the 1934 Spencer Tracy/Alice Faye film "Now I'll Tell", and classics like "Give Me Liberty Or Give Me Love" and "One More Time", as well as a medley sung in German of songs from the 1930 Marlene Dietrich film "The Blue Angel", originally performed by the band on their frequent tours of Germany.

Cindy on guitar and vocals and Bliss on ukulele and vocals are joined by bassist Peter Maness and steel guitarist Mark Deffenbaugh, who provide deft musicianship in a wide variety of styles and colors. Definitely the band's best album yet!"
