Really good album with a raw sound

"Too Fast For Love was originally released in 1981 on Motley Crue's own Leathur Records. It was re-released by Elektra Records in 1982. This album is the Crue's first. The album has a certain quality of sound that's hard to describe. It is raw, heavy, and powerful, but at the same time some of the instruments' sound/volume in a lot of places is low, then it's high, etc. This is not a bad thing, I'm just pointing out the unique sound of this album. In fact, it's a good thing. Nikki Sixx's bass has a very "smooth" sound to it, helped by the relatively low noise of the rest of the music. The bass and drums dominate on most of the songs. Mick Mars' guitar is low volume in some songs, high volume in others. Tommy Lee uses a cowbell on a few of the songs. Vince Neil sings well on this album.



As far as hard rock albums go, this is as raw of a sound as you'll hear. The music is not "polished" or "crystal clear" with top-of-the-line production. That's what I like most about the album. It's very basic. Now about the songs...



Live Wire is a Crue classic that they play at every concert. One of the great hard rock songs of all time. Come On And Dance rocks with an aggressive beat and guitar riff. Public Enemy #1 is one of my favorites. Very melodic with a driving beat. Merry-Go-Round is one of the best tunes on this album. A combination of power and finesse. Take Me To The Top is another melodic song. Piece Of Your Action has a riff similar to Ted Nugent's "Dog Eat Dog". Good powerful song. I like the guitar and bass on Starry Eyes. The title track is another classic that the band has started to play more often at concerts. On With The Show is a little bit slower, but is another good combination of power and finesse.



The bonus tracks are very good. I've never understood why Toast Of The Town never made it onto the original album. It's one of my favorites on this album. The song Tonight is another good one. The alternate take of Too Fast For Love is just as good as the original. I like the vocal intro to the song. Stick To Your Guns is yet another good song.



This is one good album. It's quite different from the band's later material, but it's good, bottom line. This is a good album to start your Crue collection with. This, Shout At The Devil, Theatre Of Pain, and Saints Of Los Angeles."

"Come on cru fans where are you?? This is by far the best cru album hands down! From start to beginning it is nothing but balls to the wall rock! And please give me more cow bell. This album is gritty and completely different from all of their other albums. Take it from me you won't be disappointed with this album. A true rock classic."
