CD Reviews

Simply the best
John C. Foster | Chapel Hill, North Carolina United States | 02/01/2001

"The Moving Targets' 1986 album Burning in Water is one of the most devastating underground pop albums ever released. Ken Chambers and co. take the power trio format to the ultimate, laying thick melodic guitar lines over an aggressive rhythm section. The music bears a certain similarity to Mission of Burma, but infused with power and urgency reminiscent of Husker Du. Well crafted, thought provoking music. Brave Noise, released two years later, reflects a more mature approach. The music is less frantic, more subtle, but no less compelling."
Young, strong and about to break up

"I originally bought these two LPs in the Village. It was the late 80s/early 1990. I was living in Washington Heights and working a swing shift as a proofreader/prover in the reports department of Deloitte & Touche on the 99th floor of the North Tower of the World Trade Center. I lifted weights and blasted "Brave Noise" every day before work. Then I dressed and took the A train downtown to Chambers Street. I was 25. I was young, strong, and about to break up with my wife.

This is the sound of "Burning in Water" & "Brave Noise."

The drumming of Pat Brady and the guitar/vocals of Ken Chambers are inspired."

"We loved Moving Targets in Germany then.

They weren't all that well known otherwise.

But they played most of their songs from Brave Noise & Burning in Water at our club then, and they were fantastic dance tunes."
