"Mozart: Clarinet Concerto, Oboe Concerto & Bassoon Concerto
First, my congratulations on finding this CD down towards the bottom of a very long list of recordings of Mozart's wind concertos. They are among Mozart's most popular works, and deservedly so; and this recording must be among the finest made.
The Academy of St Martin in the Fields was THE chamber orchestra when this was recorded, they still have a great reputation for the clarity and precision of their playing, and they specialised in Mozart. Many critics would agree that Jack Brymer's recording of the clarinet concerto with ASMF is among the very best. Neil Black, oboe, and Michael Chapman, bassoon, are excellent, too. Don't be put off by the date of recording, early 1970s, the sound is very good.
My only complaint includes all of this series of Eloquence recordings, there are no cover notes, but in this case the music is so well known you hardly need any. ( The Australian Eloquence series have good cover notes )
Five stars, easy."
