CD Reviews

A clarinetist's perspective
gseigel3 | Rochester, New York United States | 01/03/2000

"A fine CD that I can recommend for clarinet and string enthusiasts. Note that there are two clarinetists listed on the album cover. They take turns as soloists accompanied by members of the Danubius string quartet. The recordings are very useful for musicians, such as myself, who prepare to perform these pieces with their own groups. Overall, a very pleasant and enjoyable CD."
Very Worthwhile

"These are fine performances. Both clarinetists are very fine. Bologh, who covers the two arrangements, has an exceptionally dark, liquid tone. It is a gorgeous sound. This recording is well worth investigating."
Good

"This is an acceptible version of Kegelstatt with good musicianship and sound. Since getting it I have occasionally wished the coupling were different -- perhaps with the Brahms, Beethoven or other clarinet trio(s). As an example Naxos has 'The Art of the Clarinet' with these trios(Beethoven, Brahms, Mozart) and different personel which might be nice. Getting back to this recording the sound quality is good with nice presence for the different instruments in the trio and the playing is also good. The quartets must have been recorded independently since the musicians sound more distant in those."
