"The recording I own only has the Concertos No. 27 and the one for double piano, but still it is my favourite recording of all classical music. The double piano concerto includes dedicated performances by both Emil and his daughter. The approach is elegant and simple, letting the music speak for itself. This approach is also used in Emil's performance of No. 27, which is absolutely astounding. There could not be a greater performance of this most profound piece of music by any composer. The sense of yearning is unmistakable, yet done with a delicacy that eludes all criticism. The accompaniment by Bohm is equally sensitive, blending in with the piano seamlessly. The recording is also beyond fault, striking an ideal balance between the piano(s) and orchestra. There is simply not a better CD anywhere!"

"Karl Bohm can usually be counted on to deliver performances with slow tempi. He does so in the 27th, to great effect: he manages to convince me that these pieces need a certain expansiveness in order to fully explore the music. One might, at first, find the readings too slow. If you're like me, you'll eventually come to think that other readings (e.g. Clifford Curzon's, Clara Haskil's) are a bit too fast.
Emil Gilels is in top form, playing every phrase, every note, with clarity and beautiful tone, as do the Vienna players. In all, this is a winning combination for great Mozart."
