A Recital of Immense Pulchritude...

Gould's realization of Mozart's homotonal A-major Sonata (K.331) is absolutely irresistable.
(Written at Paris in the summer of 1778, each movement is in the same tonic key.)
The gentle beauty of the Theme and [VI] Variations has never been as finely expressed, nor ever has the popular Rondo Alla Turca been imbued with such wit, dignity, and joie de vie.
The facile C-major Sonata (K. 545) receives a cheerfully iconoclastic reading--(check GG's insight of the middle movement), followed by the dramatic d-minor Fantasy (K. 397).
This satisfying recital is concluded with the later F-major Sonata (K. 533).
(LP originally released on 3 Sept. 1973.)
