"The Eder Quartet of Hungary were selected by Naxos Records to record the complete Mozart string quartets in the early 1990s. The first three CDs were recorded in a Budapest church. If you find the usual sound produced by a string quartet too emaciated, you'll be surprised by what you hear here. It sound like a large, four part string orchestra, especially in the richly contrapuntal last movement of K 387. Apparently the Eder Quartet were talked out of recording at this venue. Subsequent CDs in the series were recorded elsewhere. Volume 2 includes Mozart first three string quartets, and the first of his six "Haydn" quartets. The Eder Quartet provide suave performances, well worth the budget price."
