Never Fails to Satisfy

"This is a great 'big band' recording of Mozart's great symphonies. I put Bohm's recording of them up at the top of my preferences but Krips is good too. Just like Bohm, he doesn't confuse speed with life, as some do, but gives the music time to convey its living message, without letting it become ponderous in the least. I have run comparisons of all the recordings I have - Tate, Marriner, Mackerras, Klemperer, Bohm, Von Karajan, Graf - and Krips can hold his own with any. The recording is clear and bright, though perhaps lacking the last degree as in Bohm's recording, and the Concertegebouw plays with great elan and refinement."
