"Mr. C from the Shaman has created an amazing mix of exclusive tech house tracks. I think this is a set he spins at his club The End in London. The fact the artists on this album gave him exclusive tracks says it all. This IS underground London partying."

Shuffling tech grooves that don't quite rise to be hits

"Mr. C has friends in high places, and they answer the call on this representation of London's Saturday clubland experience, Subterrain. Derrick Carter, Layo & Bushwacka!, Terry Francis, Dave Angel, all offer up unreleased tracks of tech-house for mixing and grooving. Meaning what? Well, you are going to get exactly what you probably expect: well produced tunes, pleasantly acceptable ,but never reaching high enough to be a hit. Or even stand out, as you'll blithely coast through the entire disc of b-sides before finding a song that wants to be an achiever.This is hidden at first by the forward-thinking union of techno and house, fusing the rhythms of the former with the warmth of the latter. After hearing the subtle guitar-lead shaker "Good Advice" by Charles Webster and the techno toolbox workout of Tone Theory's "My Tiger is Ravenous," you might think C's on to something. Alas, the mix becomes one shuffling tech groove after another, solid interlude tracks in search of a centerpiece to support. Mr. C's retro "Electroniche" and Killerloops's catchy "Organism" come close, but only Dave Angel's skittering, string-laden closer "Sky" causes that check-the-case-for-the-name reaction. Electronica has always battled the perception of soulless, passion-free music. Subterrain, high on professionalism but lacking inspiration, won't change anybody's minds. Grade: B-."

"This is a U.S. release of a previously released British mix by well-known tech-house maven Mr. C, a live mix based upon the playlist at the Subterrain Club in London. The music is deep, throbbing, bass-heavy, and always interesting. It's best described as an harmonious marriage of Detroit-style techno with British deep/underground house. The mix includes tracks by such luminaries as Derrick Carter, Stacey Pullen, and Dave Angel, as well as a track by the inimitable Mr. C himself. There's no fill here; it's quality music from start to finish. People who enjoy the dark, underground style of tech-house dance music should not miss this set."
