"Great anticipation was surging in my veins when I ordered this double disc set. I foolishly assumed the latest digital transfer technology was utilized, possibly from the cleanest masters available. Boy was I wrong. Compared to disc one, The 1993 MCA release called "The Complete Plantation Recordings" is a far superior release in every way. Furthermore, it appears not to have captured Waters' complete '41 - '48 output as evidenced by the absence of the Robert Johnson composition "32-20 Blues." One wonders what else is missing. The only reason this set gets a generous three star rating from me is for disc two. While the transfer quality is still inferior by today's standards, the material is quite good and somewhat rare since few could afford the massive Charly release from 1992. Alas, the wait continues for a high quality and complete release of Muddy Waters' pre-Chess material. For now stick with the MCA release if you want to hear the more down home Delta Muddy material."
Unlistenable

"The previous reviewer was quite generous unless I have a particularly bad disc. I cannot listen to it. The crackling and scratchiness are beyond the worst recordings I have ever heard. I cannot even tell you how good the music is or isn't. Do not waste your money."
