"I'm very pleased with this CD, the only criticism I have, is that it does not offer more! I would love to hear this group singing as many of the Lutheran chorales, and specifically, the hymns of Luther. This CD provides a very good introduction to the uniquely powerful choral forms of Lutheranism.
Interestingly, the painting on the CD is not identified. It happens to be of Sybella of Cleves, the portrait by Lucas Cranach, prepared to commemorate her betrothal to Johann Friederich of Saxony, who would become the last Ernestine elector of Saxony. Sybella and John Frederick were two great heros of the Reformation, so not many who purchase this CD will know who this young woman is, but she would have heard the various hymns and songs on this CD, most particularly the work of Johann Walter.
I highly recommend this CD to anyone who has a love for the Lutheran chorales and the music of the Reformation era.
The singers on this CD are truly superb!"
