Synopsis

Product Description
Nat Baldwin follows up his critically acclaimed 2005 debut EP with Enter The Winter , 10 songs recorded with a small ensemble in an old Massachusetts estate gymnasium. Joining the distinct sound of Baldwin's double bass and voice are the cellos of Juliet Nelson (Tigersaw) and Tony Rogers (Jens Lekman). The trumpet of Brett Deschenes fills out the group and Nate Horton and The Dirty Projectors Dave Longstreth add drums to a few tracks. Baldwin's signature exploratory bass playing has evolved and matured since his previous EP Lights Out . With extended forays into a very modern sounding experimentalism-at once influenced by the jazz giants of yesteryear and the pioneers of the noise scene today. This sound, combined with his heartbreaking voice is unmistakably Baldwin's. The songs take their time to unfold; the trumpet seems to melt right into the cellos and the double bass. All the instruments seem to ebb and flow through the songs like the tide, and ultimately come crashing to the shore like waves. Above it all, Baldwin's voice is always reaching, lifting the songs into the ether. Nothing is overplayed but everyone is playing with all their hearts. Where Baldwin's previous EP seemed like 'one deperate night alone'{-pitchforkmedia.com} this album seems like the work of a man who has finally seen the morning arrive. Bridging the gap between freak-folk and neo-classicalism, we invite you to Enter The Winter.
