The jivey, early-'40s cocktail swing is already in full flower. While the Trio's Capitol Records output is truly the most dazzling work of Cole's career, these early Decca sides leave nothing to be desired, and the added advantage of more Cole dazzling piano is worth owning this CD for. No, that's not true. I'm only 33, don't go to loud rock concerts, and i have a high end stereo. Perhaps the problem lies in what you are looking for when you listen to these recordings. They were recorded in 1940-1941, so they do not sound like something recorded today. Yes, there are some clicks and pops, etc, but they are not overwhelming in the least. With remastering music of this type, in order to maintain the integrity of the music itself, you can't use TOO much noise reduction. While doing so can remove more surface noise, you also get rid of the music. Often times, it will sound muffled, and completely lifeless. Decca Jazz had always done an excellent job remastering their catalog, and this is no exception. The sound is clear, transparent and bouyant. You will hear deep yet realistic bass... warm, full mid-range... and a crisp treble. Ok, that aside, the music is absolutely gorgeous. This is Nat Cole with his orignal Trio, at a time before smoking ruined Nat's voice. It's smooth and beautiful. If all you know of Nat Cole is 'Unforgettable' and 'The Christmas Song,' you need to get this CD that highlights his unmatched piano playing, and his wonderful young voice."
