CD Reviews

Nate is "Next in Line"
Sherman L. Dantzler | Grand Blanc, MI United States | 06/19/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Nate Harasim refined his piano playing skills at the Flint Institute of Music. At sixteen, he formed the group MoJazz and had a measure of success opening for people like, Roy Ayers, Norman Brown, Tom Braxton, Pamela Williams and others. Now we get hear his talent not only as an artist, but also as a writer, producer, arranger and engineer on his debut release "Next In Line".

On this project he gets together with Sergio Mendes bassist James East (younger brother of Nathan East), and 3rd Force trumpeter Mitch Manker to produce an outstanding CD.

From the beginning to the end, each cut delivers a unique and intriguing aspect of his piano. Check out `Sweet Dreams' and `Soledad Sunset' as an example of versatility. It was difficult for the JazzeOne to highlight a favorite song, so I will let you discover for yourself. There is no wrong selection so sit back and enjoy Nate Harasim, he may be the "next in line" of talented jazz pianist. ~the JazzeOne

Smooth Jazz format star!!!!!!!!

"It is few and far between when artists still in high school are asked to open for and tour with the likes of Norman Brown, Pamela Williams and Tom Braxton; but such was the case for pianist Nate Harasim (pronounced "hair-ah-sim"). If that doesn't give you an indication as to just how talented this young man is, consider this as well... he is credited with writing, arranging, producing and engineering his debut release, NEXT IN LINE. In addition, he has the distinction of having been signed as a Yamaha recording and touring artist. To put that in perspective, some of the other Yamaha Jazz pianists include Tony Bennett, Chick Corea, Bob James and Jamie Cullum. One listen to NEXT IN LINE and you will not only be a fan, but you'll be asking yourself how a debut release can be so solid and well developed from start to finish. The songwriting is meticulous and the playing is fluid and focused. There is a confidence and maturity throughout the album that bodes very well for Harasim's future. The upbeat title track (and first radio single) leads off the album, setting a jovial mood with its exuberant energy. "Holloway Cruise" is graceful and charming... while on "92101," Harasim again shows us his extraordinary skill level on his instrument, weaving his way around a thoroughly enchanting melody. It's always exciting to hear a new artist who "has what it takes" and Nate Harasim definitely stands to be next in line as a format star. ~BETH LEWIS ..
