CD Reviews

Spacey and Dreamy rule the day
Justin Anderson | Albany, NY USA | 07/12/2000
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I should be honest here- I didn't want to buy this album. I hated Hum- they were right, I would have preferred an astronaut. So, my friend keeps pushing National Skyline on me. Tells me to forget about Hum. He knows I like Aspera Ad Astra, Swervedriver, etc. I'm not saying that NS is shoe gazing. But it lies somewhere between spacey and dreamy. If that makes any sense."
Oddly interesting

"This CD has the singer from the now broken up Castor and the bassplayer from Hum, Jeff Dimpsey. The album has a good, cohesive band sound to it.This CD mixes elements of Hum and Castor but sounds nothing like them in that it has a techno-like edge to it. The first song, Metropolis, is outstanding. The vocals are good, and the vocalist sure can hit the high notes. This CD is outstanding, but the only weakness is it's shortness. But the 21 minutes of music certainly are good."
National Skyline

"While being quite a departure for what I would've expected as a follow-up to Hum and Castors work, the combined talent of Jeff Dimpsey of Hum, and Jeff Garber of Castor still showcases some fine talent in this day and age. While only picking up this album a little over a week ago, I find myself listening to this album just about everyday now, as the dreamy soundscapes and lush sound effects are highly reminiscent of Radioheads Kid A. However this album differentiates its style from RH prvious effort in that National Skyline take a minimalistic approach to the music as some of the songs on here could be more like intermissions as two of the songs clock in at a little under 2 minutes. The album as well only runs about 20 minutes, but it is still well worth the price of admission, as I can't belive I've been missing out on this band for years. A fine followup to Hum and Castor, although seemingly I would assume this band is now defunct as they have not released an album in well over 4 years so, get their 3 albums while ya can."
