"nearLY is one of the most valuable examples of teamworking in the world of music. The debut album, 'reminder', is an instant classic that takes control over the listener, tries to guide feelings and the way we try to interpret certain events taking place all over us.



This maxi-single 'Straight to Nowhere' is an inevitable companion to 'reminder' because it contains a very important and emotion-packed b-side called 'November 5th'. 'November 5th' is an instrumental track that can easily help your eyes produce tears.

I am addicted to 'November 5th' and there exists a question in my mind that needs an answer: 'What happened in November 5th?' and what's the importance of 'November 5th' to Jerome Dillon, who is the genius behind nearLY?



Along with 'November 5th', listeners can be easily addicted to an alternate and more sentimental version of 'Mary Vincent'.



Highly recommended. Period. Anything coming from nearLY is a must -buy for me from now on."

"'Straight To Nowhere' is a CD Single with some new mixes of songs from the full CD 'Reminder', but with the addition of 'November 5th' which in itself makes the purchase worthwhile ... if you love your moods dark. 'Straight To Nowhere' is much more an addition to 'Reminder' than an alternative, it's much better to own both CD's though this is a nice sample if you are uncertain.



Claudia Sarne's (12 Rounds) voice is sultry with a slightly jazzy/bluesy undertone, adding the perfect inflection to the shadowy and poignant mood, with lingering inflections of despair. Putting Claudia together with former NIN drummer Jerome Dillon and you have a sound that is uniquely melancholy without being boring.



Track one is a radio edit mix of the song 'Straight To Nowhere', an industrial inspired tune with a brazenly languid beat and lyrics that speak of hope despite the ennui. Track Two is the standard mix of 'Straight To Nowhere' from the CD 'Reminder'. Track three is the song 'All Is Lost', which is airless, shadowy, and depressing, with beautifully echoing drumbeats and strangely bitter lyrics of inner strength in spite of internal weaknesses. This song is also on 'Reminder.



Track four is the best reason to pick up this Single CD: 'November 5th'. A morose, instrumental piano piece with darkly tense electronica building into beautiful, almost classical movements, which will leave you brooding over your more maudlin thoughts.



The last track, number Five, is an alternate version of the torchy song 'Mary Vincent', also from 'Reminder', done solely with Claudia's haunting vocals and soft piano accompaniment. "You build a house, you'll build a grave."



Claudia Sarne and Jerome Dillon combining their unique talents in 'Nearly' is an audio treasure you shouldn't miss out on, especially if you like your music dark. There's an eclectic mix of industrial, electronica, classical, and a touch of blues in Nearly's music, the despondent sounds reminding me of The Kronos Quartet's 'Requiem For A Dream', that shouldn't be ignored by the audiophile. I highly recommend both this CD and the full 'Reminder' CD. Enjoy!
