"The Necks are a sydney based Jazz trio ( Piano,Bass and drums ) who are probably as much influenced by Can as they are by anyone in the Jazz canon. Probably too Krautrock for ECM they release discs on what I believe is their own label.
Unheard is a 55 minute improvisation recorded live at the Basement here in Sydney.
This improvisation is a good example of the way the Necks work,beginning slowly and then imperceptibly building to become something otherworldly and magnificent.
Unheard begins with a repeated bass figure until the piano and drums seamlessly join in and the music builds to a point at 22 minutes in where it sounds as though someone has released a thousand butterflies inside the piano,shortly thereafter the butterflies begin to levitate the piano,the band, the Basement and it's occupants and head for Dusseldorf 1973 via Chicago 1905.
