"That I'm the FIRST person to review this CD is an absurdity. Everyone needs to own it. The singing is utterly exemplary. It's hard to believe that someone who sings this well was only born in 1941. You would think 1891."

Shicoff CD Not that bad...

"Overall, I thought that this CD was pretty good. It must be noted that this CD is a compilation of several orchestral opera recitals done by Shicoff from the 80s-2001. His musiciality is what makes him a star but on several tracks you can hear a certain wear or fray to his voice. However, you can't ignore the beauty of his instrument.



I loved the CD...I stronly recommend it for any Neil or opera fan!"

Can you believe this is his first recital recording?

"Neil is pretty good, and he has never recorded as much as he should have. His Edgardo in the LUCIA set with Gruberova is just deliciously pronounced! He has a sotto voce line in a scene with Lucy's brother that knocks me out. It's just: "Oh, gelosia!" Oh, jealousy; everytime I hear it I squeal like a teenager. This album is some of his best.



I wish he would do a different CARMEN. Jesse Norman is a great soprano, I love her, but Carmen she was not! Denyce Graves and Shicoff are a hot duo for that opera, and it almost must be seen, rather than heard. They make the third act and finale truly hair-raising.

By the way, Shicoff was born in 1949. not 1941. He has a sound all his own; he's my favorite don Carlo--another opera he should have recorded, but didn't. I'd want the baritone on this album to sing de Posa; Vladimir Chernov" an elegant figure onstage and a good actor."
