Neil Young's second solo effort is as impressive as his debut. Already a wholly formed singer/songwriter from his Buffalo Springfield sojourns, he shows his lyric and music strengths and format diversity on this album. The hits Cowgirl In The Sand (10:30!), Cinnamon Girl and Down By The River (9:13!) still sound strong after all these years, but the lesser known cuts deliver, too. Round & Round and The Losing End (When You're On) are great Neil Young compositions that utilize the talents of Crazy Horse effectively. Robin Lane contributes strong singing to Round & Round and Danny Whitten matches YOung's fine guitar slinging. Easy to understand how CS&N asked Neil to join their band right after this gem was released. They saw the possibilities just as we do.

"Down By the River...Cowgirl in the Sand...if those two were the only songs on the album, I'd still give it five stars without complaining about the length..."
Pressing just fine.....

"Although I usually discourage people from giving bad ratings when the product they receive is defective under the circumstances described in a few of the reviews here I completely agree. It made me reconsider before buying and I waited several months before taking the chance, well I am glad to report that the copy I was sent is perfect. No noise or any other issues with the quality of the pressing.

As for the sound of the album I am very pleased. The seperation is very pronounced and the music distinct and clear. I compared it with the original recording and this is definitely a step up. In my mind easily worth the $20.

Hopefully there are no more pressing problems with this album and reviews will be on the recording itself."
