Album DescriptionThe ancient sound of the shakuhachi Japanese flute is an effective aide when you are receiving bodywork, or practicing a spiritual practice, such as Meditation, Yoga, Tai Chi, or other spiritual practices. This bamboo flute will create a nurturing and supportive place so that you can relax and breathe. Komuso ( priests of nothingness ) are Zen priests who wandered Japan in ancient times, playing the shakuhachi bamboo flute. In their form of sutra chanting music, called honkyoku, each phrase is questioning, haunting, and meditative. Honkyoku is played slowly, with silence adding shape and poignancy to the sound. It was their way to develop the spiritual breath so as to enter a special state of absolute sound to obtain enlightenment. Today honkyoku is still loved for its soothing, stress-reducing effect. It is simply meditative, powerful, and healing.
