Neotropic s first release in 2 years sees her undertaking yet another change in direction. After four critically acclaimed albums on Ninja Tune s sister label N Tone and the uber-hip Mush Records, Riz Maslen aka Neotropic is making this new 30-minute EP / mini-album available through Net31 and her own Council Folk label. Her last album, White Rabbits (released Summer 2004), was even more collaborative than before, often utilising a full band to create a more expansive, detailed, cinemascopic sound. The wistful, melancholic Prestatyn (named after the North Wales town where Riz would take family holidays as a child) sees her predominantly working as a solo artist again, yet the increasingly guitar-based, almost post-rock stylings on offer here are all the more encompassing. Influences / comparisons might include the likes of Mogwai, The Cure, Fennesz, releases on the Kranky and Constellation labels and classic Shoegazing.
