What is subjazz?

(4 out of 5 stars)
"That is the question I asked when buying RESIST NEW GROOVE. Here is the kind of deep dark jazz stylings and experiments that I would expect to be in some seedy underground lounge cellar in Gotham. The album is for a particular mood, introspection and chill. If you're in that mood, it's quite an experience.
Half the songs are electronic minimalist experiments laid atop a jazz rhythm or downtempo beat. Heavy use of synthesized sounds, dissonance and illbient styles yet sax, piano, and upright base are often there playing along. The other half of the cuts are more recognizable jazz stylings but still in keeping with that dark underground flavor. Some have vocals but only as a background or a texture.
It's difficult to rate this CD as it is a mood thing. In the right mood, I'd give it Four-Five Stars and in those moments I have enjoyed the experience. For everyday listening, it is three stars except I have ripped several standouts to my iPod so it again changes my rating.
As to the songs I personally picked: Kombai, Medium Django, Sleepface, Jézamenco, Digging Up Speaks for that "everyday" listen."
