CD Reviews

There is a major problem with this otherwise wonderful CD
D. COLLIER | Brownwood, TX United States | 03/13/2004

"I'm not trying to disrespect the music of this movie in any way, shape, or form. The music (classical composed by Saint-Saens) is absolutely beautiful, if I may use an understatement. But if you purchase this CD, be aware that those who put it together almost succeeded in putting half the film script on there as well.It was very irritating, because what I wanted to hear was the music from the film. Instead, I had to listen to the lines of the film during the music of the film. If that were what I wanted to hear, I would simply sit in front of a television and pop the tape into the VCR and watch the movie BABE. I can understand if the makers of this soundtrack wanted something in it to appeal to the children. Then, leave in the mice singing "Blue Moon" during the credits. And leave in James Cromwell's solo rendition of "If I Had Words" - but leave it at that. They should have left the rest of the music untainted. What I'm probably going to do now is find the most comprehensive collection of Saint-Saens's music I can find on compact disc. At least then, my listening pleasure will not be interrupted by conversations between Babe the pig and Ferdinand the duck."
Beautiful music and a lot of talking

"I loved the movie babe and it's music is truely great, though i must confess that when I got the CD and started hearing it I was a bit disapponited, as I found out much of the running time of this CD is in fact not music but quotations from the movie... as much as I adore Ferdinand the Duck I didnt buy the CD to hear him talking, i bought it to hear the soundtrack."
Good music from the movie is absent form this disc

"As a high school student looking to major in musical composition in college, I purchased this CD for its beautiful main theme (written by Camille Saint-Saens and adapted for the movie) and was horribly disappointed to find that theme has very limited playing time. Right from the very first track, the regal and majestic intentions of Saint-Saens are destroyed by a trio of rats singing his work. What is that????? Get rid of the barnyard choir, I want real, quality music of a real orchestra. There is also too much talking. I want the music that appeared in the movie, instead I got the character's voices rambling for half the CD."
